As we approach the end of the year, the only trades of the year are performed for rebalancing TQQQ to the desired percent of the portfolio.
This year does mot require rebalancing because no one has a portfolio with more than 40% YQQQ. You can rebalance if you want to lower your TQQQ position back down to what you started with.
Most importantly this is a good time to start a TQQQ position. Every 2% TQQQ purchased will raise your portfolio performance one percentage point. You do not need to hold all SPY. For the near term any portfolio will do. Over time you will want to sell anything that underperforms the S&P and buy SPY.
To raise funds to purchase TQQQ you should sell your worst performer over the past year which is probably 30% below the S&P. This will increase your portfolio performance by 3 percentage points if it made up 10% of your portfolio.
Many worry about buying at a market top. If you did buy at the COVID top, you were break even in 18 months and in three years you were up 100%. The cost of not being in the market can be as high as 24% per year.
