With the market at all time highs, what are the index ETFs holding?
SPY, TQQQ, and QQQ all hold roughly the same top 10 stocks. The big difference comes in how much they hold.
Most investors are aware that SPY holds 39% of these stocks. However, few are aware that QQQ holds 53% of these same stocks. Fewer would ever guess that TQQQ which is considered the riskiest of the three indexes holds only 26% of these same stocks.
TQQQ holds about half the amount of the 4 largest stocks because at their size they aren’t rising as fast as other future leaders. Financial advisors think TQQQ is way too risky because it is a triple however what it holds appears to be less risky.
The average annual volatility of TQQQ is 4. Currently the volatility is 2.6. After the last 2 exceptional years the volatility usually drops to about zero as other stocks try to catch up. So far this year the Stars model is 10 percentage points above the S&P.
TQQQ is trying to find the new leaders but to date they have not been confirmed. The annual turnover in TQQQ is only 25% whereas it can be as high as 150%. TQQQ appears to be in a holding pattern.
The Stars model has no view on market direction. It just tries to hold the best stocks in both rising and correcting markets.
